Ayitian President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated after a group of unidentified group of gunmen  attacked his private residence, the country’s interim prime minister confirmed in a statement Wednesday, July 7

Ayititi declared a two-week state of emergency on Wednesday as it hunts for the gunmen who killed president Jovenel Moïse in Port-au-Prince, and the interim prime minister now in charge of the country urged Ayitians to “remain calm because the situation is under control.” Little is known about the suspects, but a special issue of Haiti’s government gazette claimed that they appear to have been foreigners.

In the wake of the Haitian president’s dead, many have sent their condolences to those living amid the chaos. like superstar Wyclef Jean reacted

“Saddened by the dramatic daily events in Haiti. The assassination of @moisejovenel is an attack on the institution of the presidency & is a tragedy! My prayers r with his family & 4 my Haitian brothers & sisters who are the daily victims of this chaotic situation.

As officials investigate Moïse’s assassination, Haiti is in a “state of emergency.” All borders are closed, and martial law has been imposed. The Ayiti National Police and the country’s military have been deployed to enforce the law.
